Peel Teaching Garden is located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and is staffed entirely by volunteers. Peel Teaching Garden is not connected with any commercial or business enterprise nor any municipal government. The task of Peel Teaching Garden is to rediscover, to pool, and to share, the skills and the craft of the practical home gardener.
Peel Teaching Garden Home Gardening Course
2010 Registration Now Open
The Course
This winter there will be eight classes, held on the second and fourth Saturday of the month beginning on Saturday 09th January 2010 with the final class on Saturday 24th April 2010. Classes will be held, from 2:00pm to 4:30 p.m., at the Region of Peel Agricultural Society's headquarters building, at the Brampton Fairgrounds, (S.W. corner of HeartLake Road and Old School Road in Caledon).
Because the content of the classes is specific to gardening in Peel County, and is generally information which is missing from most gardening books and horticultural courses, this program is of interest both to people who have never gardened before and to those who have gardened all their lives. There is a basic core content, but the course is flexible and the classes can be adjusted to address the needs of the attendees.
The Cost
While we do not make a financial charge, in return for the course training, each attendee commits to contributing 16 hours, helping in the fairground gardens during 2010. The time commitment amounts to an average of two hours per month from April to November and can be contributed at such times as an individual chooses.
Because we are using the premises of the Region of Peel Agricultural Society for the classes and are gardening on society land, for insurance purposes, it is required that everyone associated with Peel Teaching Garden also be a member of the society. The membership fee is $5.00 and this will be collected at the first class.
